Your mechanics might be better. Your brain might not be able to access them under pressure.
Where Aim Training Genuinely Helps
This doesn't mean you should quit. It means you need to be honest about what aim training is actually good for.
It works well as a warm-up tool. Five to ten minutes of tracking or clicking scenarios before a session raises your motor activation and shortens the ramp-up time before your mechanics feel sharp. That's a concrete, proven use case.
It also works for beginners who have fundamental movement problems — overcorrection, low sensitivity flicking, poor micro-adjustment control. If your mechanics are technically broken, aim training can fix them. If they're just inconsistent under pressure, it probably won't.

Here's the part most players skip entirely: tracking your aim scores tells you about your ceiling, not your floor.
Your floor — the level you perform at when things go wrong, when you're down two rounds, when your teammate just rage-quit — is a cognitive problem, not a mechanical one. Composure, tilt resistance, and decision speed under pressure are the variables that determine whether your aim training shows up on days that matter.

Keep sessions short and specific. Thirty minutes of focused scenario work beats ninety minutes of going through the motions. Choose scenarios that match your game's movement patterns — Valorant and CS have very different flick profiles than Apex or Overwatch.
Track in-game metrics alongside trainer scores. If your trainer scores improve but your in-game headshot percentage, KAST, or accuracy stats don't move within three to four weeks, the transfer isn't happening. That's a signal to look at the cognitive layer.
Add pressure to your training. Intentionally play ranked when you're slightly uncomfortable. Train in environments where your score resets, where something is on the line. Mechanical skills that only work in low-stakes conditions aren't skills you own yet.
The One Thing Worth Doing This Week
Pull your last 20 ranked games. Note the sessions where your mechanics felt good but your results were bad. If you see a pattern — specific map phases, post-death situations, late-game scenarios — you've just identified a pressure response problem, not an aim problem.
