Do this for 20 deaths over two or three sessions. You will almost certainly find a pattern. Most players who feel stuck are dying in the deciding state far more than they think. They are not slow mechanically. They are slow cognitively, and they are spending their training time on the wrong problem.
Once you can see the pattern, you can drill against it. Use aim trainers or in-game modes to practice scenarios where you pre-commit a decision before the engagement starts. Force yourself into reacting mode by removing as many real-time variables as possible during practice.
The Composure Factor Nobody Talks About
Decision speed does not degrade uniformly under pressure. It collapses in specific conditions.
The most common is tilt. When you have lost two or three rounds in a row, cognitive load spikes. Working memory gets crowded with emotional noise — frustration, self-monitoring, anticipation of failure. The result is slower processing, which players misread as mechanical failure.
This is why the same player who clutches one round goes completely blank two rounds later. Their mechanics did not change. Their composure did.
Training composure as a distinct cognitive skill is something most players skip entirely.
